About the route:
We’ve kept it inclusive and varied, suitable for all riding abilities with a good mix of twisty lanes and comfortable A roads – with some stunning scenery along the way. You’ll cross the River Medway and the River Beult as well as the small streams of the River Bourne as you pass through Shipbourne village, famously known for its historical landscape and broadleaf coppices. On the return, you’ll pass over the rag-stone 15th century bridge in Teston and on towards Aylesford, via East Malling and Ditton.
The route is about 42 miles in total and will take about an hour and a half, unless you wanted to make a day of it and enjoy a few tea breaks and pub lunches along the way – in which case, here are a few recommendations that might tempt you:
- The Blue Anchor - Village Pub and Beer Garden in Saint Mary’s Platt
- The George & Dragon - Kent Life ‘Cosiest Pubs’ 2018 located in the picturesque village of Ightham
- The Lodge Coffee Kiosk - Teston Country Park, near Maidstone
