KTM Shifts into High Gear with Revolutionary Automated Manual Transmission

KTM has elevated the riding experience by introducing the cutting-edge Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), blending the effortless convenience of an automatic with the precision and thrill of a manual transmission—all while maintaining KTM’s renowned "READY TO RACE" DNA.

Showcased in action by Johnny Aubert at the legendary Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, KTM’s AMT redefines performance by offering riders a seamless balance between sporty dynamics and refined usability. This innovative gearbox provides unparalleled versatility across all riding conditions, from aggressive off-road challenges to smooth, everyday commuting.

Precision Meets Simplicity

The AMT system gives riders the flexibility to choose between two modes:

  • Manual Mode (M Mode): Manual shifting without the need for a clutch, preserving the rider's engagement and control.
  • Automatic Mode (A Mode): Effortless, fully automated gear shifts, ideal for relaxed, everyday riding.
Once first gear is engaged, the centrifugal clutch takes over, ensuring easy starts and no stalling. This makes tricky scenarios like starting on slopes, pulling away, or navigating at low speeds incredibly smooth and controlled, especially on larger motorcycles.

Advanced Gear Setup

Breaking away from traditional motorcycle gearboxes, KTM’s AMT features a unique P – N – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 sequence. The PARK position prevents unwanted rolling, using a locking mechanism in the gearbox. Both PARK and NEUTRAL are selected via the handlebar paddle, ensuring full control, even when the engine is off. The rider must apply the brake before engaging first gear, adding an extra layer of safety and precision.

Unmatched Shifting Speed

Shifts are electronically managed through the bike’s ECU and Transmission Control Unit (TCU), with an electromechanical actuator controlling the shift drum. This results in lightning-fast gear changes of just 50 milliseconds, delivering a performance level comparable to KTM’s Quickshifter+ system.

The Best of Both Worlds

What truly sets KTM’s AMT apart is its Manual Mode. Riders can take full control by shifting gears either through the traditional foot lever or the paddle shift on the handlebar, preserving that READY TO RACE feeling with no compromises in agility or speed. KTM has meticulously engineered the AMT to maintain the proportions and weight of a traditional gearbox, ensuring no sacrifice in performance.

Customizable for Every Rider

The AMT integrates seamlessly with KTM’s RIDE modes, allowing riders to fine-tune their setup to match individual preferences and riding scenarios. Whether on the track, off-road, or cruising through the city, the system offers unmatched flexibility.

The groundbreaking AMT will debut on select KTM models, with more additions to follow, cementing KTM’s place at the forefront of motorcycle innovation.

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required.
