The 60s saw a rise in rebellious rock 'n' roll custom motorcycles and bike meets across the globe. Motorcycles looked less like a standard mode of transport and more like an extension of an individuals personality.
Custom work swiftly followed any bike purchase and there was always something else to be done in the workshop to enhance performance or appearance. However even with this rider habit which continues today, it's not unusual to see the same make and model of motorcycle on a ride out with very little done by the rider, but they've still made it their own.
Let's get creative and get some more unique custom bikes on the road!
Scroll down for some inspiration...
Making your bike more unique can simply come down to a few basic tweaks, straying away from the stock builds that roll out of the factory. If you're thinking about customising your motorcycle, then why not start with handlebars, indicators, levers and soft luggage.
You can easily change the entire look of your motorcycle with handlebars, allowing you to change the shape and angle you mount the mirrors and controls - a good brand to look out for are Renthal.
Levers are a bit of a challenge, there are lots on the market varying in price and some claim to be universal and one size fits all. Meaning it fits everything okay, but not well! It's always better to find brands like Pazzo or ASV.
If you'd like to add practicality to your motorcycle without installing a top box or set of panniers then look no further than soft luggage. Such as tank bags, tail bags and saddlebags - all giving you more room to store goodies.
A simple yet really effective modification is indicators. Available in a wide range of shapes, sizes and brightness, there'll definitely be something you like. Don't forget you can get bar-end indicators and integrated tail lights too.
You may have decided that you've had enough of seeing the same motorcycle out and about and want to stray away from the pack! These subtle changes can add bundles of character and performance to your motorcycle...
Handlebar risers enhance your riding experience by raising the handlebars up, often taking the strain away from your neck, wrists and lower back. These, like the handlebars themselves, can change the shape of your motorcycle, adding character and raising the bar (quite literally).
Upping the game of rear sprockets, dual sprockets utilise a combination of aluminium and steel to create a durable yet lightweight alternative to normal sprockets. Lasting three times longer than aluminium sprockets alone, these offer great bang for your buck.
Not only can you get braided cables in a bunch of different colours to match your motorcycle, but they're also more durable. Over time standard rubber brake lines become soft, therefore you lose some force that's applied to the brake pistons. Keep your brakes as sharp as possible with braided cables.
For those of you who have a passion of making your motorcycle your own, far away from the stock motorcycle life, here lie the bigger customisation options you may need workshop assistance for...
These packs which are available at Laguna stores are a great way of upgrading the performance and feel of your motorcycle. There are a good range to pick from, such as performance or touring and these packs will include various different mechanical upgrades.
The market for tyres is huge and you can often find exactly what you are after as there are such a huge range of options. Adding different tread patterns, coloured walls and thickness can really change the appearance of your motorcycle.
One of the most common customisations straight from the factory is adding your own slip-on muffler or exhaust system. There are tons of brands out there such as Akrapovic, Black Widow, Zard and Lextek to name a few - which can add stacks of audio charisma to your bike.

Laguna Motorcycles Limited (which include multiple trading names: Laguna Motorcycles, Laguna Performance Centre, Laguna Triumph, Maidstone Honda, Maidstone Harley-Davidson® and Kent Motorcycles) is an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No. 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd’s permissions as a Principal Firm allows Laguna Motorcycles Limited (which include multiple trading names: Laguna Motorcycles, Laguna Performance Centre, Laguna Triumph, Maidstone Honda, Maidstone Harley-Davidson® and Kent Motorcycles) to act as a credit broker, not a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders, and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.
We are a credit broker and not a lender. We can introduce you to a carefully selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. We act on behalf of the lender for this introduction and not as your agent. We are not impartial, and we are not an independent financial advisor.
Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next most suitable offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure a suitable finance agreement for you that enables you to achieve your financial objectives. If you purchase a vehicle, in the majority of cases, we will receive a commission from your lender for introducing you to them which is either a fixed fee, or a fixed percentage of the amount that you borrow. This may be linked to the vehicle model you purchase.
Different lenders pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement; however, you will be contributing towards the commission paid to us with the interest collected on your repayments. Before we propose you to a potential lender, we will inform you of the likely amount of commission we will receive and seek your consent to receive this commission. The exact amount of commission that we will receive will be confirmed prior to you signing your finance agreement.
