Recommended motorcycle ride route through Sussex

Starting from our Maidstone Harley-Davidson® store, take the A229 south, following it through Maidstone town centre, Loose, and the postcard village of Staplehurst and continue on towards the first stop-off, Sissinghurst Castle.

If you’re a nature lover, this is the perfect place to take a stroll. Enjoy the huge world-renowned gardens or one of the woodland trails.

From here, continue on the A229, through Cranbrook and Hawkhurst – a village famed for its 18th century smuggling history that now boasts an eclectic mix of shops, cafés and bars. The nearby Hawkhurst Fish Farm and Waterside Café makes a lovely stop-off for a quick bite to eat, or even a morning of fishing if you go prepared!

Pass through the villages of The Moor and Hurst Green, then take the A265 through Etchingham, Burwash Weald and Heathfield, enjoying the peaceful and lush country views of the High Weald Area of Natural Beauty. Follow the A267 to Little London, Lower Horsebridge and towards Polegate – which boasts it’s stunning Grade II restored windmill.

Time to stretch your legs? Drusillas Park Zoo is just a stones throw away, and is home to hundreds of exotic animals and a host of other attractions. Continue south on the A27 as the stunning sea views emerge and ride all the way through Seaford and even onto the esplanade! To enjoy more panoramic views over the English Channel, ride along to Beachyhead. You can take a stroll along the chalk cliffs to enjoy some lovely sea air and views of the famous red and white striped lighthouse – this is also the perfect place to stop for a picnic. Or, continue on to Eastbourne Beach and Pevensey Bay, and enjoy a traditional fish ‘n’ chips and other English seaside attractions! If you’re a nature lover, this part of Sussex is a haven for wildlife and birds… keep an eye out for the Lesser Whitethroat, the rare bird which migrates yearly from Africa.

When you're ready, take the A27 north in a loop back to Polegate, and then join onto the A295 and meander through the pre-roman town of Hailsham, Herstmonceux and Boreham Street. The next stop off at Battle Abbey, famed for the 1066 clash between King Harold and William the Conqueror, is a great way to soak up some history. Visit the gatehouse exhibition, walk the battlefield trails, or head to the roof for stunning views of the Sussex countryside.

When it’s time to hop back on the bike, take the A2100 and B2159 towards St. Leonards and Hastings beach. Drive right along the A259 coast road to enjoy some gorgeous sea views! Continue north, through the picturesque Winchelsea until you reach Rye. One of the most photographed towns in England, Rye boasts medieval buildings, nooks and crannies to explore, and legendary smuggling history. This makes a great stop-off for a bite to eat in the 600 year old Mermaid Inn, or take a climb up the Ypres tower to enjoy panoramic views across the marsh.

Time to start heading back? Enjoy the scenic route! From Rye, take Military Road, and hopping onto the B2080 from Appledore. Meander through the country lanes at Tenterden, following the A262 and A274 for lush country views through Headcorn. Continue on to Leeds Castle, where you can have a final stroll, or enjoy a flask of tea in the peaceful castle gardens. If you’re here in time for a sunset, the stunning views over the lake make for an incredible end to the day.

Jump back on the bike, and take the A20/M20 back to our Maidstone Harley-Davidson® dealership!

Laguna Motorcycles Limited (which include multiple trading names: Laguna Motorcycles, Laguna Performance Centre, Laguna Triumph, Maidstone Honda, Maidstone Harley-Davidson® and Kent Motorcycles) is an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No. 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd’s permissions as a Principal Firm allows Laguna Motorcycles Limited (which include multiple trading names: Laguna Motorcycles, Laguna Performance Centre, Laguna Triumph, Maidstone Honda, Maidstone Harley-Davidson® and Kent Motorcycles) to act as a credit broker, not a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders, and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.

We are a credit broker and not a lender. We can introduce you to a carefully selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. We act on behalf of the lender for this introduction and not as your agent. We are not impartial, and we are not an independent financial advisor.

Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next most suitable offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure a suitable finance agreement for you that enables you to achieve your financial objectives. If you purchase a vehicle, in the majority of cases, we will receive a commission from your lender for introducing you to them which is either a fixed fee, or a fixed percentage of the amount that you borrow. This may be linked to the vehicle model you purchase.

Different lenders pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement; however, you will be contributing towards the commission paid to us with the interest collected on your repayments. Before we propose you to a potential lender, we will inform you of the likely amount of commission we will receive and seek your consent to receive this commission. The exact amount of commission that we will receive will be confirmed prior to you signing your finance agreement.

All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18s or over. Guarantees may be required. Please see our complaints page for our complaints policy and regulatory complaints.
